The authors conducted a survey of 100 Inuit young people aged 14-25 years in Northern Quebec in order to estimate the prevalence & risk factors for suicide attempts. 34% of survey respondents reported a past suicide attempt, & 20% had attempted suicide more than once. Severity of attempt, prevalence of ideation, previous exposure, & risk factors are discussed. Further findings, including the prevalence of substance use & patterns of help-seeking, are also discussed, with a broader emphasis on family health & well-being. (26 refs)
