This chapter reviews assessment methods with substance-abusing offenders, providing an overview of the psychosocial interview. The authors amplify & discuss the importance of assessing for suicidal ideation among offenders & review several standardized scales, including their psychometric properties & availability. They also provide criteria for selecting standardized tests with adequate psychometric properties for use with individual clients, & briefly reviewed diagnosis clients using DSM criteria.
