The authors outline a comprehensive clinical & psychosocial patient evaluation to be used in the management of suicidal patients with recurrent mood disorders, aimed at determining treatment strategies & identifying risk factors for suicide & parasuicide. They argue that the most effective means of managing patients with affective illness who are at risk for suicide is shown to treat the underlying illness with acute & long-term medical & psychological therapy.
