The author reviews the profile of suicide in the Northwest Territories to determine: 1) What is the updated picture of suicide in the northwest territories? 2) How has our understanding of suicide shifted after the division of the Northwest Territories & Nunavut? & 3) What are important factors for caregivers to consider? Among other findings, the author determined that the majority of suicides were completed with other people present on the premises, sometimes even in cases of those who lived alone. The implications for teaching intervention & debriefing skills are discussed. (10 refs)
