246 women aged 15 to 25 years suffering from acute poisoning were studied & compared with other groups. The morbidity resulting from acute poisoning was low & only one patient died. Adverse social factors were present in most patients although more than one-third were thought to be free of psychiatric disease. It was concluded that self poisoning in these patients is often an impulsive act & that social work follow up is important.
