This report was developed by the National Association of Social Workers in order to address the unique emergency care needs of young people exhibiting injuries resulting from self-injurious behavior such as attempted suicide, substance abuse, & interpersonal violence. The report documents the need for clinical practice guidelines, discusses self-injurious behaviors commonly seen in the emergency department, & outlines mental health interventions for children through prehospital to emergency department discharge.
