This paper presents a brief history of Alaskan natives, discussing concerns regarding the mental health & emotional values of the Inupiat people caught in a conflict between traditional cultural values & the demands of the present modern society, & reviewing methods of intervention presently being utilized to assist the Inupiat people in moving along with acculturation. The effects of intrusions by outsiders, including a high rate of suicide, are discussed. (14 refs)
