The rate of suicide in the Northwest Territories up until 1971 was close to or below that of Canada as a whole. Between that time & 1980, there was a dramatic increase with a peak in 1978 which was four times the national averaged. This study assess the available data about suicide from 1970 to 1980 in order to determine the cause of this increase in suicide rates. (8 refs)
