This article discusses the difficulties facing sexual minority youth in rural Alberta. Homophobia, religious intolerance, emotional & physical abuse by peers, alcohol & drug addiction, & suicide are all discussed. Lack of community support & limited access to sources of information & socialization are identified as the greatest barriers for sexual minority youth in rural areas. The roles of support groups & the internet in effectively connecting with these isolated youth are discussed.
