This report provides an overview of suicide & self-inflicted injuries in Massachusetts for the years 1996 through 1998. Data are presented regarding hospitalizations for & emergency department treatment of self-inflicted injuries. Adolescent suicide behaviour is discussed within the context of results from the Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey. A public health approach to suicide prevention is described.
