The prevalence of pathological gambling & problems associated with it were measured among 1471 students of three colleges in the Quebec city metropolitan area. Almost 90% of the students had gambled & 21.7% of the students engaged in this behavior once a week or more. The prevalence of pathological gamblers was found to be 2.8% for the entire sample. The percentage of pathological gamblers was much higher among males (5.7%) than females (0.6%). Related interpersonal problems, including suicide, are discussed. (26 refs)
