The authors report the findings of a 2001 mail questionnaire of Oregon’s hospice nurses & social workers concerning their experiences with patients requesting assisted suicide. 45% of respondents had cared for a patient who requested assistance with suicide, & they rated desire for control over the circumstances of death as a very important reason for these requests. Further findings are also discussed. (19 refs)
