This study examined the psychometric properties & clinical utility of the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (SSI) for children. Data from 87 children who were admitted to the inpatient unit of a mental health center was used. Based on the findings, the SSI appears to have adequate psychometric properties & can be used by clinicians & researchers examining children in an inpatient setting. Recommendations for clinicians are included to help make the SSI more functional in use for children. (45 refs)
