The present study sought to extend previous findings that university students with low emotional competence had the lowest intention of seeking help. It focuses on adolescents, examines a larger number of emotional competencies, & explores the possibility that social support explains the relationship between emotional competence & help-seeking. Although low emotional competence was found to reflect low intention to seek help from non-professional sources, this was not true for professional sources. Implications are discussed. (47 refs)
