This paper is a summary of a longer report which detailed the circumstances of suicides among the Cree communities of James Bay, with recommendations for prevention. Data is presented in a series of questions: Are suicide & parasuicide an important health problem for the Cree?; Why do people commit suicide or parasuicide?; Where do Cree commit parasuicide?; Are suicides becoming more frequent?; Was there any warning that someone might try to commit suicide?; & What can be done to prevent suicide?
