In this paper, the author reviews research in the field of psychological trauma & provides readers with an introduction to a complex subject about which scientific knowledge is far from complete. Despite this, the reported results of therapy for post-traumatic stress & realted orders are good. Important issues for would-be helpers are identified. (22 refs)
