The handgun control statutes of the continental states of the USA in 1966 were coded & scaled for strictness, & strictness was found to be unrelated to the incidence of homicide (by any method) in 1960 & 1970. However, states with the stricter handgun control statutes were found to have lower suicide rates by firearm & lower suicide rates overall. (9 refs)
