The author compared national laws concerning completed suicide, attempted suicide, & assisted suicide, & found that the data forms a perfect Guttman Scale, in which the characteristics can be ordered in such a way that, if a nation has characteristic (n + 1), it will also have characteristic n (but not necessarily vice versa). Coding of laws & punishments assigned to them are discussed. (2 refs)
