This article reports the experiences of one nurse who now works as a suicide prevention counsellor. She encourages nurses in hospital settings who come into contact with suicidal patients to extend their care by engaging in communication with the patients. She draws on examples from her own experiences to illustrate how communicating with suicidal patients in the time of their crisis is an important & effective component of nursing care.
