This study employed Cloninger’s Tridimensional Personality Theory in order to draw a personality profile that predicts suicidal ideation among psychiatric patients. 172 psychiatric outpatients randomly selected from a psychiatric clinic in northern Israel participated in the study. The results indicated that among psychiatric patients, suicidal ideation can be explained by the combination of 5 personality traits: impulsiveness, stoic rigidity, confidence, disorderliness, & indirectly, pessimism through confidence & rigidity.
