This article recounts the story of Jerry & Elsie Weyrauch, survivors of their daughter’s suicide who went on to found the Suicide Prevention Advocacy Network (SPAN)& devoted their energies to petitioning for a national suicide prevention strategy in the United States. The different ways in which each of them dealt with their loss are discussed, & the role of support groups in the healing process of suicide survivors is explored. Recent developments in suicide prevention as a result of their efforts are also described.
