This article suggests principles for primary, secondary, & tertiary school-based suicide prevention programs in America. Issues of assessment, education, & standardization in school-based suicide prevention programs are discussed. The author notes that effective school suicide prevention programs should be structured enough to provide school professionals with guidelines to follow when dealing with suicide but flexible enough to allow proper handling of unique situations.
