This study examined the prevalence & demographic, injury, & clinical correlates of hopelessness, suicidal ideation & suicide attempts after a traumatic brain injury. Of the 172 participants, 23% reported suicidal ideations & 18% made a suicide attempt following the injury. There was a high degree of co-morbidity between suicide attempts & emotional/psychiatric disturbance. The authors note that this high risk for suicide should be considered when managing treatment following the injury. (34 refs) (SC)
