Factors Associated With the Medical Severity of Suicide Attempts in Youths and Young Adults

Factors associated with the medical severity of suicide attempts were examined. The study focused on demographic characteristics, mental health characteristics, & the circumstances of the suicide attempt. The results show that young age was significantly associated with a nearly lethal suicide attempt. Prior suicide attempts, hopelessness, depression, & help-seeking were significantly & negatively associated with a nearly lethal suicide attempt. Findings are discussed. (22 refs)
