This article presents two cases of young men who displayed suicidal ideations &/or psychotic symptoms following prolonged ingestion of Ma-Huang, a traditional naturopathic medicine used as a stimulant & remedy for asthma. Several psychiatric complications associated with the ingestion of ephedrine (an ingredient found in Ma-Huang) are presented. Evidence is presented that indicates that these psychiatric complications dissipate after Ma-Huang is no longer ingested. (20 refs) (SC)
