The Emotionality & Suicidal Tendency Scale (ESTS) was a scale designed to assess the emotional & suicidal tendency of the remand population in prison settings. A total of 1655 remands were randomly selected to participate in the present study. The ESTS was found to have a high degree of test-retest reliability & internal consistency. The subscales showed significant judgement & other self-administered measures of suicidal tendency. The relationship between the subscales & Beck’s Hopelessness Scale was discussed. (26 refs)
