The author discusses the diagnosis, treatment planning, & phases of psychotherapy with a self destructive patient using a theory of the schizoid process as a guiding principle. A female (aged 23 years) was admitted to a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt. She was diagnosed with major depressive & borderline personality disorder.
