This study explored whether measures of domestic social integration (marriage, birth, & divorce rates) were associated with suicide rates over the Departments of France in a manner predicted by DurkheimÕs theory of suicide. Information was compiled on 95 departments in 1970. Suicide rates were higher when domestic social integration was greater, contrary to hypotheses based on DurkheimÕs theory. (2 refs) (SC)
