This chapter summarizes research on suicide in America. Suicide rates, risk factors for suicide, & social/cultural factors that may influence suicide are provided. Several suicide prevention programs are presented, supplemented with recommendations for increasing the effectiveness of these programs. A discussion of suicide in youths & the elderly is included.
