This paper reviews evidence for the efficacy of clozapine in the treatment of aggression & violence (which are closely linked to suicidal behavior) in the treatment-refractory patient. It is noted that as many as 92% of patients who attempt homicide also attempt suicide. The authors argue that the reduction in violence & persistent aggression with clozapine treatment should improve the chances for integration of the schizophrenia patient into the community & provide cost savings to society.
