This study examines the ethnic influence on suicide rates of South Tyrol, an Italian province which has historically been under the cultural influence of German-, Italian-, & Ladinian-language groups. The study shows a significant correlation between the male suicide rate & the proportion of the German-language group. The ethnic suicide rates of Italian- & German-speaking people were found to approximate each other, in comparison with the national rates for Italy & Austria, possibly as a result of cultural interaction.
