In order to determine whether a genetic variation in the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) is associated with aggression & anger-related traits, the authors investigated a sample of community-based healthy volunteers & suicide attempters. For anger-related traits, an effect of TPH was observed in healthy volunteers & suicide attempters after controlling for age & educational level. U-carriers in both groups showed higher scores for State Anger, Trait Anger & Angry Temperament. These findings & their implications are discussed.
