This article addresses the prevalence & severity of depression among secondary school students attending two high schools in New Zealand. The relationship between depression & suicide ideation & behaviour is also examined. The authors empirically demonstrate that some adolescents who are at elevated risk for suicide can be identified within the school population. Results indicate that 34.3% of students who reported high levels of depression also reported having thoughts of suicide. (SC)
