The authors examined all suicides by children & adolescents (ages 11 through 19) in Diyarbakir during 1999 & 2001. Adolescents between 15 & 19 years of age constituted the overwhelming number of all suicides. Victims were found to be predominantly female. The most frequent means of suicide were firearms, hanging, & jumping. The majority of suicides occurred at the victim’s home. Reasons identified were mainly psychiatric disorders, followed by troubles within the family. Findings are discussed. (27 refs)
