This article examines some of the more common psychiatric problems that present in childhood and their management in the community. The author discusses four of the most common disorders: anxiety, depression, conduct disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and notes that most childhood psychiatric disorders can be effectively managed in a general practice and community setting. Suicidal ideation is also discussed. (25 refs)
