This article describes the video – Muffled Pleas for Help – as too general to be useful, although it does provide appropriate modeling of physician helping behaviors. Shortcomings are presented of a vignette in the video. These shortcomings include avoiding direct questions of suicide, the inclusion of a portrayal of a suicide attempt, the exclusion of the person at risk in future planning, paternalism towards the elderly, & the lack of support for physicians who will be suicide survivors.
