This article discusses aspects of mental health among the population of Cairo, Egypt. A mental health profile includes statistics on depression, suicide, & substance abuse. The crude suicide attempt rate in Cairo was found to be 38.5/100,000 while the rate of suicide completions was 3.5/100,000. Cairo has 1 psychiatric bed for every 2,200 citizens. (11 refs) (SC)
