This article summarized research concerned with bereavement after a suicide. Studies indicate that the relief, anger & depression felt by survivors of suicide did not differ considerably from those grieving for non-suicidal people. Survivors of suicide reported more guilt & searched for explanations more strenuously than survivors of non-suicidal deaths. Community reactions to survivors of suicide also differed from survivors of non-suicidal death in that there was less social support, more loneliness & more isolation from other widows. (12 refs) (SC)
