This preliminary study concerning suicidal tendencies in the Lapps strengthens the hypothesis that the suicides committed by the Lapps contain general features in common with any other culture, together with certain distinctive features. These features are discussed, with particular attention paid to family patterns and cultural meaning of suicide.
