The aim of this study was to determine if state laws that require safe storage of firearms are associated with a reduction in child mortality due to firearms. The authors measured unintentional deaths, suicides, & homicides due to firearms. Findings showed that gun-related homicide & suicide showed modest declines, but these were not statistically significant. These laws did appear to help prevent unintentional shooting deaths among children younger than 15 years. (30 refs)
