This article analyzes the prevalence of alcohol abuse in people admitted to American hospitals for trauma & injuries. Statistics regarding the presence of alcohol in vehicular traumas, farm machine fatalities & suicides are included. The author states that the suicide rate among alcoholics is 58 times that of the general population, & 30% of people that die by suicide are alcoholics. (29 refs) (SC)
