The first two letters to the editor in this issue of “Nursing” respond to the position taken by the author of a column on assisted suicide. The first questions the author’s claim that a trial of palliative or respite sedation is cruel & inhumane, & also suggests that a personal opinion piece is inappropriate in a peer-reviewed journal . The second letter challenges the representativeness of the author’s viewpoints. The last letter makes some general comments about Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act & the right of individuals to make choices about their own death.
