Mortality and Political Climate: how Suicide Rates Have Risen During Periods of Conservative Government, 1901-2000

This editorial comments on the research by Page et al which studied the effect of the political environment on mortality. Suicide rates in Australia were found to rise during Conservative periods of government over the course of the past century. Similar results can be seen in an analysis of data from England & Wales.
