This paper provides a review of the literature & examines evidence that migration to Britain heightens the risk of suicide for Irish people. Reasons for stress in Irish people living abroad are discussed, including the inability to create an authentic identity. Irish cultural attitudes to health & the use of alcohol as an accepted method of coping with stress are also discussed. (44 refs)
