This letter from the editor discusses the publication of contradictory information regarding the prescription of antidepressants for depression & suicidal ideation. Evidence is cited that the increased use of antidepressants seemed to be correlated with a decreased suicide rate in an Australian elderly sample. A discussion of specific types of antidepressants is included. (SC)
