This manuscript discusss suicide among American police officers. Evidence is cited that more than twice as many police officers completed suicide than were killed in the line of duty in 1994. Occupational stressors, such as exposure to death & life-threatening danger, are identified as contributing factors to suicide. Lack of social support is identified as a main reason for police officers who contemplate suicide. Stigma & shametowards suicide within law enforcement agencies are discussed. (SC)
