This article reports the case of a 79-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital & prescribed fluvoxamine & warfarin as treatment for suicidal thoughts. Her case demonstrates that the coadministration of warfarin & fluvoxamine can result in an increase in the anticoagulant effect of warfarin. The anticoagulant effect can be seen for several days after the discontinuation of fluvoxamine. The author asserts that their case emphasizes the need to closely monitor potential drug interactions in the elderly, especially those concerning fluvoxamine & warfarin. (8 refs) (SC)
