This article is geared towards those in the medical community who seek a better understanding of treatment methods for multiple limb amputees. The article examines why a higher proportion of multiple limb amputations occur through alcoholism or attempted suicidal behaviour than occur with those with single limb amputations. The article concludes that prosthetic supervision of a multiple limb amputee is a lifelong process. (42 refs.) (AK)
