This article discusses firearm injuries in America. The author notes that 16,586 people used a firearm to commit suicide. 80% of suicide attempts using a firearm are fatal & 87% of these people are men. White males over 75 are identifed as having the highest rate of suicide by firearms. Discussions of accidental discharges of a firearms & homicides involving firearms are included. The implications of the high rate of suicide by firearm on firearm safety & storage are presented. (SC)
