The prevalence of medical treatment for suicide attempts was investigated in the western part of The Netherlands. Demographic groups at risk were identified. Apart from general hospitals & psychiatric hospitals, 28% of all reported suicide attempts were reported exclusively by general practitioners supporting the conclusion that they are an important source of information. There were indications that the number of people receiving medical treatment for suicide attempts in this area is stabilizing. (13 refs)
